THE COLLABORATION
LIKE YIN AND YANG
The collaboration between the artists AKTE and CREN began in early 2016. A mutual love of lettering and the search for balance between harmony and contrast motivated them to start working together. Since then they have prepared works in which they divide two surfaces or two canvases and then paint them alternately, successively, or simultaneously.
For their first work, they wanted to create an image with two areas of equal size, and they came upon the idea of the yin and yang symbol.
While CREN’s working method is rather structured and AKTE is more free and spontaneous, they unite these seemingly opposed approaches in cooperative works through complementary and harmonic means.

THE STUDIO
WHERE CREATIVITY HAS ITS SPACE
The studio is the place where everything is created, from the idea to the finished artwork.
For AKTE ONE and CREN, collaboration does not necessarily always mean working on a joint work, but rather exchanging ideas and inspiring each other.
The enrichment that results from this is important for both artists, in addition to the high quality standards.
The works that leave the studio have therefore undergone at least two quality controls.

3D CHROMA DEPTH
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Since 2016, the two artists have also been working together on joint works, most of which are in an orange-blue colour spectrum. This not only has a high recognition value, but also a very special effect due to the arrangement of the different colour gradations and structures: viewed through chroma depth 3D glasses, the work develops a special depth that highlights individual elements of the motif.
This gimmick also gives the viewer a different perspective on the art of AKTE ONE and CREN and emphasises how multi-layered their works are.

THE HAUS
THE ROOM
For AKTE and CREN this installation is an experiment with the perception and meaning of space, with or without 3-D glasses. The work is a sort of performative art or action, in which the viewer/visitor is transformed into an actor as he uses the 3-D glasses and dirties the floor with his steps. With allusion to the chaotic conditions of our world and the destructive presence of humans — along with the yin-yang symbol’s glimmer of hope — in this work the duo has taken giant artistic steps in terms of both content and form, steps that presage further exciting projects in the future.

DUALIS
THE CATALOGUE WITH POP-UP SHOW
The two artists published their first joint catalogue “Dualis” at the beginning of 2018. This is a so-called “reversible catalogue” – on one side there are works by AKTE ONE, on the other side works by CREN. The jointly designed works meet in the middle of the catalogue and bring the two halves together.
To celebrate the publication in style, the two artists organised a large pop-up exhibition at the URBAN SPREE gallery in Berlin, which was a resounding success.
